A few parts and pieces of our December via iphone snapshots.

December and the holiday season were good to us.  We spent bundles of slow time together and at home.  I put a puzzle together, worked a smidge on a wedding invitation (for a destination wedding in April), Isla and I went to the Nutcracker Ballet, we did a few crafty things, a few sporty things, and baked a few goodies including a chocolate cake to enjoy Christmas eve and day (and amongst all the good stuff, the kids fought just a little . . . smile, wink).   Having so much time at home, I enjoyed keeping a fresh potpourri of water, cranberries, oranges, cloves, and cinnamon sticks simmering on the stove in an old enamel pot – for a variety of reasons this reminded me of my mom and of home.  We also took a few days to travel down near the Gulf to Bryan’s parents house.  It was nice spending a bit of slow time with them and his brother and sister-in-law (in from Texas).  I was ever so determined this year to keep things simple yet celebratory.  For the kids to not be overstimulated yet excited. And for the most part, I think we were successful in doing so.  It seemed like there were just enough gifts, just enough food, just enough decorations, just enough travel to give the season the ever so perfect amount of special that it deserves.
