hello ’18 on this Christmas eve.

While cookies are baking (we are trying these this year), the babe is sleeping and holiday potpourri is simmering on the stove I am printing, cutting and addressing my holiday greetings on this Christmas Eve.  To be matter of fact it is a New Year’s “Hello”. 🙂 The last few years a New Years Greeting has been more my pace.  I enjoy the idea of sending out a bit of cheer after all of the celebrations are over, decorations are down and presents unwrapped – when things might be seeming a bit dusty and dull. OR maybe that is just my excuse for running a week or two behind the whole month of December.  With the birth of Mr. Tate in mid November, this year was no exception.  I had high hopes of designing an extra special greeting on my own to announce his birth, but I chose the extra snuggles instead. However, I love the simplicity of this card from minted.  I then just made a couple of “Tate” photos that included his birth day details into tags.

Two of my favorites from holidays past . . .

first Christmas. stocking + gifts.

Tate’s first Christmas is almost here!  The normal anticipation we feel just days before Christmas is magnified this year knowing we have another little man to share it with.  Although, he isn’t going to care much (or at all) about what is in his stocking or under the tree, I wanted to gift him a few things that will be useful and/ or meaningful a few months or years down the road from now.  I have written a message in the books so that he will know they were given to him for his first Christmas. In regards to the holtztiger wooden bear figure, my plans are to give him these wooden animal figures on special holidays or occasions for his first couple of years.  Then, by the time he is old enough he will have several to play with – he can create a zoo or farm or zarm or foo.  I have high hopes that the bank will stay in tact throughout his kid years and will be something that I can gift to him a second time once he is grown and out of the house.  The stacking boat is his first toy and I am hoping it brings him and possibly his future children much playtime and enjoyment.

Apparently, I am assuming Tate likes bears (bear bank, bear toy, bear romper). 🙂

tate’s space

My current favorite space in our house is Tate’s cozy nook in our room . . .

I love how everything of his is contained and organized in this small yet functional space.

(my inspiration)

Books & toys & clothes from friends and family.  A small jar of shells that Isla and I collected last November (2016) in which I was still carrying my sweet baby Nicholas.  It was his first and only visit to the beach.  That trip and our small collection will always be special to me.  The wardrobe I painted green at 8.5 months pregnant (it had to be green – my pregnancy told me so :)).  His white baptismal outfit and blanket.  A crib with sheets and a pillow that I felt were absolutely necessary that I make for him (again, pregnancy makes you crazy like that!).  The heart pillow that I made right after our move to Alabama.  The puppy and boy who are bound to be great friends.  The pup is still trying to figure out where my belly went and where this tiny noisemaker came from.  She is a bit jealous of the attention I give to Tate, but is slowly growing used to her new friend.

Our trip to the beach last November . . .

a southern snow

We haven’t bought official “snow clothes” in almost five years. So enjoy the menagerie (especially the girl’s). I now have a laundry room floor full of cold wet socks, gloves, hats and scarves, but it’s well worth the cozy afternoon we’ve had at home. In Alabama, even an inch of snow closes almost everything down. This, leaving us nothing to do but play, eat, and cuddle an almost one month old. Not to mention, Dad got to come home early. All things combined equivalent to a small slice of winter heaven. Hopefully it will “stick” around until tomorrow.
